Let's Make Mixtapes

Keeping your childhood pop icons alive…even the ones you thought were dead.

July 13, 1993 was a good time in my life. I’d just finished high school (I hated high school) and the future was wide open. (It would later shutter in a bitter ball of failed dreams and whiskey in plastic bottles, but that’s not the point of this article.) Today I’m here to tell you about one of the best albums released that summer. And EVER. I’m talking about the self-titled debut album from the sultry, stunning songstress, Toni BraxtonIn its 24 years on this earth, it has brought me more hours of joy than most of my family members. (I’m kidding. Maybe.)

The album would hit number 1 on the Billboard charts and produce three top ten singles. But it was the following song, which was actually on the Boomerang soundtrack (the 1992 film featuring Eddie Murphy and Halle Berry) that introduced Toni to the world and, more importantly, to me. The single would reach number 33 on the charts, and Toni would add it to her debut album as well. Check it out . And FYI, Toni, love woulda brought me home to you every night…
