Let's Make Mixtapes

Keeping your childhood pop icons alive…even the ones you thought were dead.

I love great songs. Especially ones that are so unique and powerful, they’re like nothing I’ve heard before and outlast even the people who wrote them. Of course, I also love a good cover. I’ve heard some that were better than the original and some I won’t mention here.

procol harum

One of those incredible, time-tested singles is “Whiter Shade of Pale.” The song was originally released by the British group Procol Harum back in 1967 and reached number one in the UK and number 5 on our side of the pond. Since then, it has been covered…a lot. A little Google search revealed almost 200 covers (though I’ve heard the word “thousand” thrown around.) Regardless, I’ve discovered a few choice covers (not a complete list, of course) which I present to you here.

Who covered it best?
