Let's Make Mixtapes

Keeping your childhood pop icons alive…even the ones you thought were dead.

You’ve heard of Duncan Shiek. C’mon. We know you’ve heard of him. You’re probably thinking, “Isn’t he the guy who wrote and sang that ‘Barely Breathing’ number from the 90s?'” Yep. And maybe you’re thinking, “Wait, isn’t he also the guy who won a gazillion awards for writing music to Broadway’s Spring Awakening?'” Yeah, same guy.

spring awakening

Even if you don’t always see his name in the daily papers (are those still a thing?), the man never stopped working. Besides his Tony and Grammy awards for that musical I was never able to see but purchased the album to immediately after hearing the first note of the first song, he’s produced eight studio albums and had his string-plucking fingers in nine musicals. And we’re pretty sure he’s just warming up.

Something you may not know, however, is that one of those studio albums was a glorious cover of 80s songs, Covers 80s, which was released in 2011. And one of our favorite tracks is his take on Howard Jones “What is Love.” Check it out…
