Let's Make Mixtapes

Keeping your childhood pop icons alive…even the ones you thought were dead.

On this Fourth of July weekend, I thought I’d throw a little classic American music your way. Since I don’t own a Chevy and I can’t bake apple pie, I thought I’d select an artist who’s outlasted most Chevy’s and whose music sounds sweeter than any of granny’s pies!

If you were alive in the 80s, chances are good you saw the 1985 film Vision Quest, starring Matthew Modine and Linda Fiorentino, and a rising star named Madonna, permforming both of the songs discussed here. If you didn’t see the film, you at least slow-danced awkwardly at your prom to the hit song, “Crazy for You.” The soundtrack featured the likes of Foreigner, Journey, and Sammy Hagar. In addition to those artists (and “Crazy for You”), it also featured a second single from Madonna. If you’re presently floating on your own personal vision quest and can’t recall the song, we’ll give you a refresher (complete with the original video!) From 1984 (as found on the b-side of a 45 rpm for “Crazy for You”), please rise and dance along with us to “Gambler.”
